Dogs are animals that have a constant talent for getting into trouble, whether it's chewing on shoes or chewing clean clothes, dogs always find a way to test their owner's patience. They are exotic animals and are characterized by a very strong sense of smell. Inside the house, you should keep your favorite dog away from some common things in order not to lead his life. There are many dangers in the house that can cause a disaster for your dog.

This is due to the curiosity of dogs and their tendency to explore the world using their mouths, so they tamper with various potentially toxic household items. Always be prepared, as your animal may be poisoned despite your efforts to prevent it. We need to look at our homes through the eyes of the pets we own. Exposure to toxins can be by inhaling, eating, licking, or skin-to-foot contact.

The level of toxicity of the toxins themselves varies greatly, as well as the dog’s reactions and symptoms that appear on the dog. They can be mild and limited to nausea or skin irritation, and they can be strong, such as heart failure, liver or kidney failure, and coma.

Be very careful, keeping your dog safe from themselves is part of your responsibility as the owner of this dog. Despite years of rigorous training, some dogs can ingest substances that cause them harm. When this happens, go to the vet immediately.

I will give you a good overview of the types of things you have that can be toxic to dogs:

1- Human food:

Most dogs are experts at sticking their nose at the dinner table and begging for your leftovers. In fact every now and then won't harm your dog, but there are some foods that should never under any circumstances be given to a dog such as:

Chocolate contains a chemical known as theobromine, which is highly toxic to dogs.

Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure. Other dangerous foods are onions, avocados, tomatoes and raw eggs.

If your dog eats these foods, please contact your veterinarian to know the steps to be taken. And if you have family or friends coming to your home, you should tell them not to feed your dog.

2- Cleaning products:

There are sweet-smelling chemicals such as window cleaners, furniture paint and bathroom cleaners and certain types of chlorine that your dog will find tasty and will gobble up any chemicals that are spilled or sprayed on surfaces within reach. Always wipe any excess chemicals from your surfaces immediately and allow the wet area to dry before allowing the dog to return to the room again. All chemicals should be stored out of your dog's reach, for example, in a high cabinet. But if the dog has swallowed it, the hospital or the veterinarian must be contacted with an explanation of the name of the product and the time the dog took it to obtain the correct veterinary care.

3- Houseplants:

Certain types of plants such as: narcissus, cyclamen, amaryllis, yew and chrysanthemum. They can be very toxic if a dog ingested or chewed them that could cause fatal poisoning in a short period of time. If this happens, always seek medical help immediately if you think your dog has eaten any of these plants.

4- Insects and rodents:

Rats, mice, and cockroaches put what is called a trap or bait for them, and there are types of attractive food on which there is poison, but be careful because this trap is not only for rodents, but also for your hungry dog, this trap must be placed in a place that the dog cannot reach.

These baits work to block vitamin K, which causes internal bleeding for anyone who will swallow these baits, whether rodents or dogs. The same mechanism applies to both, and because dogs are larger than rodents, it takes longer with them for bleeding to occur, usually within 3-5 days.

If you have a rodent problem and feel that the only solution is to put the food, please put it in a location where the dog cannot reach it and once a day is enough to make sure that the bait is still there, if you feel that the bait has disappeared and that your dog has eaten it, you should call immediately See your vet to know what to do right away.

5- Medicines:

Both human and animal medicines can be dangerous to your dog, as some medicines may have a sugar coating on the outside of them like a pill making them look like sweets. Pills and other medicines should always be stored safely out of the reach of animals in general, or be careful when throwing medicines in the garbage if the dog has a habit of stealing food from there.

6- Fertilizers:

The fertilizers available in your home garden often contain insects and toxic insecticides. These pesticides may cause skin irritation or harm their eyes and sinuses. This is a reason to claim not to let your dogs out in the garden because the smell of pesticides attracts them.

7- Coins:

If your dog has a habit of swallowing small objects, heavy metals such as coins, you should never leave him unattended. Because most coins are made of zinc and lead, which can destroy red blood cells and lead to anemia when swallowed, and your dog may have to undergo surgery to remove them.

8- Electrical cables:

You must buy tape for all electrical cables so that your dog can live safely in the house, or you can also buy a smelly tasting spray that will deter dogs from chewing on the cables, you should take extra care when going out and do not leave the dog alone in the house because chewing electrical cables may Cause a fire or electrocute your dog.
